Long term therapy doesn't appeal to everyone, research shows that 70-80% of people who attended only one therapeutic session found it helpful and chose not to attend weekly sessions but instead attended one of sessions if and when they felt they needed support.

To make the most of our time together we need to focus on one nominated concern so we can look together for a solution. At the start of the session I will invite you to explore what you would like to take away from our time together and how might you know at the end of the session that our work together was helpful.

Here are examples of presenting issues that often come up in Single Session Therapy– Burn out, anxiety, panic attacks, loss/grief, exploring personal needs and boundaries, psycho education, developing self compassion, self esteem, self criticism, perfectionism, fears and worries and many other concerns that influence our quality of life and can be looked at during a one off session.

Although the concept of a single session is a one of intervention its important to outline that more help is available if you think you would benefit from further sessions going forward.

Although one off sessions can be very helpful, there are certain limitations to the one off approach where certain issues will not be considered suitable for a single session and referral for a longer term therapy would be more appropriate for example: alcohol and drug addiction, self harm or suicidal thinking, eating disorders, abusive behaviours. A one of session is not crisis intervention.
